Barbara Hope Campbell Phillips, born October 5, 1931, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on September 21st, 2024. She was born in Bobtown, Accomack County, VA and was a member of Holly Baptist Church. Barbara was preceded in death by her father George Ward Campbell, mother Mildred Mae Kellam Campbell, brother Richard Kellam Campbell, and sister Doris May Campbell Custis.
She is survived by her husband, John (Jack) Edward Phillips, II, whom she was married on October 26, 1951, three daughters: Deborah Hope Phillips Bank and her husband Martin E. Bank, Susan Lynn Phillips and Karen Ann Phillips Kirby and her husband Steven L. Kirby; grandsons John Thomas Steele, Jr, and his wife, Lynn Steele, Jon-Michael Tyler Bowman and his wife Jessica Burton, Jeffery Allan Moore, Jr, and Kyle Edward McCloud and his wife Tori McCloud; great grandchildren Alana Hope Steele, Drake Thomas Steele, Landon Chase Michael Bowman, Liam James Bowman, Lochland Jahn Bowman and numerous nieces and nephews.
Barbara, a retired writer-editor, was employed by the United States Army Aviation Logistics School at Fort Eustis, Virginia. After retirement she and Jack took time to travel the United States and abroad. An avid sports fan, you could find her watching her favorite sport, tennis, as well as following the Atlanta Braves, Washington Commanders and enjoying the sport achievements of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 11:00AM at Doughty Funeral Home. The family will host a reception immediately following the service.
