Barbara Jane Reeves passed away peacefully on October 24, 2025, at the age of 96 in Wayne, Michigan. Born on April 25, 1929, in Ferndale, Michigan, Barbara's life was a testament to her enduring faith, love for her family, and dedication to her community.
Barbara grew up in Ferndale, the beloved daughter of Carl and Bessie Alschbach, both of whom preceded her in passing, along with her sister Geraldine Surmin. She found love in Commodore Reeves, and together they built a family. Though Commodore and their son Stephen are no longer with us, Barbara's legacy continues through her daughter Mary, grandson Gary, granddaughter Kristy, and great-granddaughters Destini, Tristina, and Faith.
A devout Jehovah's Witness for over six decades, Barbara's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was known for her deep spiritual conviction and served as a shining example of unwavering dedication to her beliefs. Barbara often shared a joke that she came from a line of long livers, attributing her longevity of life to her ancestry.
Barbara maintained a close-knit circle of friends, who found in her a dependable and kind-hearted confidante. In her younger years, she enjoyed card nights, skillfully playing games like Skip-bo, Pinochle, and Casino. Her hands were rarely still, as she delighted in the intricacies of needle point and embroidering, creating beautiful pieces.
Professionally, Barbara dedicated over two decades to the healthcare community at Corewell Wayne Hospital, formerly known as Annapolis Hospital. She retired in the late 1980s, leaving behind a legacy of excellent service that touched the lives of many. Her enjoyment of her job was evident in the care she provided.
Barbara's life was a rich tapestry woven with devotion, service, and joy. Her memory will be cherished. As we bid farewell to Barbara Jane Reeves, we hold tight to the warmth of her smile, the strength of her faith, and the love she so freely gave. Her spirit will forever be a guiding light for her family, her faith community, and the countless lives she impacted throughout her meaningful journey.
