Billie Ray Jones, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, left this world peacefully on October 14, 2025, in Michigan. Born in Jellico, Tennessee on July 11, 1937, Billie's life was a testament to the enduring power of love, hard work, and the simple joy of playing ball.
The son of the late Charlie and Effie Jones, Billie grew up understanding the value of family ties and hard work. His journey through life began alongside his siblings, and though he outlived some, including Norman (Jackie) Jones, Wilma (Paul) Stanfill, Bob (Fay) Jones, James Jones, Junior Jones, and Donnie Stanfill, their memories and the lessons learned from them remained a guiding force throughout his life. He is survived by his loving sister, Janice (Duke) LeDuke, and sister-in-laws, Betty (Vern) Foor and Lois Jones.
Growing up in Michigan, in the heart of the neighborhood he called home, that he met his lifelong love, Juanita, at the tender age of thirteen. Their friendship blossomed into a love that would endure for a lifetime, leading them to the altar on September 3, 1960. Together, they raised a loving family, including their children Angela (Ray) Shepard, Kellie (Brad) Dexter, Billy (Deborah) Jones Jr., and James Jones.
Billie's legacy continued to flourish through his cherished grandchildren, Tim (Miranda) Collins, Josh (Danielle) Collins, Chris (Aubrey) Cislo, and his eight great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride. He is predeceased by Bonnie Jones, Pat (Ken) McKeley, Jimmy Turner, Kim Jones, and James Allen. His family circle also includes many nieces and nephews, as well as his father-in-law, the late James Collins, and mother-in-law, the late Dorcie Collins.
A proud member of the Iron Workers Union, Billie dedicated 35 years of his life to his craft, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues. His commitment to excellence was recognized by all who worked with him, as he was often referred to as "one of the best." Billie's leadership skills and exceptional work ethic made him a sought-after team member, and his retirement in 1992 was a well-earned respite after years of dedicated service. His loyalty to the union was unwavering, as he remained an active member of the local 426 and local 25 unions for 65 years.
Billie's passion for baseball was more than a pastime; it was a lifelong affair. He not only loved the game but also played in a league for many years, showcasing his talent and sportsmanship. His enthusiasm for Detroit sports never waned, and the Tigers held a special place in his heart. Billie's love for the game was matched only by his love for his family. Known as the best dad and a good man, he was the epitome of a caring and supportive father.
His character was one of quiet strength and immense kindness, never uttering a bad word about anyone. Billie was the embodiment of class and had a rare ability to make everyone feel comfortable in his presence. He was a man who got along with everyone and was always there for anyone in need.
Billie Ray Jones's life was one of purpose, love, and integrity. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the many lives he touched with his gentle spirit and generous nature. Billie's journey on earth may have concluded, but his story will continue to inspire those he left behind.
