In Loving Memory, It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Douglas Rose on September 13th, 2025. John was welcomed into this world on November 13th, 1945 by his proud parents Harold & Margaret Rose in Detroit, Michigan. Shortly thereafter, John's sister Judith Kathryn was born. The Rose family relocated to
Westland, Michigan (Nankin Township) in the early 50s. Being close in age, John & Judi shared many friends and adventures together while growing up. John is remembered for his wonderful smile, infectious laugh and dedication to his family and friends. He touched many people throughout his lifetime with his kindness, warmth, and generosity. Family was especially important to John. He loved talking about his family members, what they were up to and made it a point to attend every important life event or special occasion
John Douglas Rose is survived by his sister Judi, his brother-in-law Tom, nieces Kristen and Jamin as well as his great nieces Shannon and Patricia, his great nephew Michael, their families, and many cousins within the Rose family.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Harold P. Rose in 1965 and Margaret L. Rose in 2019.
Throughout John's life, he was known for his big heart and sense of duty. John served in the Vietnam War from 1965-66 with the US Army with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry, 4th Infantry Division. He was a member of the National Chapter of the 4th Infantry Division Association, the American Legion & Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). Upon his return from the Vietnam War, he resumed his career with the Ford Motor Company. A proud member of UAW Local 900, he held a variety of positions over his 46 years at the Wayne Assembly Plant. John's faith played a significant role in his life. As a longtime member of the Kirk of Our Savior Presbyterian Church, John served in a variety of roles and was quick to lend a helping hand wherever needed. From taking care of the church lawn, shoveling snow, and performing usher duties to helping clean up after services, John was always there with a kind word and a smile. An avid lover of sports, especially baseball, John will be remembered for his vast collection of sports cards and memorabilia, Western novels, coins, and collectible glassware. He enjoyed planning road trips, logging hundreds of thousands of miles across many states to visit various colleges as well as professional sports stadiums. He attended countless games over the years to gather souvenir cups and loved touring each campus he visited. John had an incredible memory; he would light up as he shared stories about his travels and the people he met along the way whether it was several years ago or just the week before. John was drawn to flea markets and trade shows, establishing a vast network of friends within the collector community that shared his passion for collecting.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on November 1st, 2025 at 11:00 am at his church, Kirk of Our Savior located at 36660 Cherry Hill Road in Westland. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by John Douglas Rose are welcome to attend and celebrate his life.
In honor of John's request to be "buried with his brothers," a military honors ceremony will be held at a future date at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church in honor of John's generous spirit and commitment to making the world a better place.
John will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege to know him.
