Ronald Terry Brown, affectionately known as Ted, Terry, Ron to his friends and family, passed away on September 30, 2025, in Traverse City, Michigan, at the age of 71. Born on November 8, 1953, in Detroit, Michigan, Ted was a man whose vibrant spirit and infectious laughter left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Ted was a proud veteran of the US Marine Corps, a testament to his love for America and his dedication to serving his country. His patriotism was matched only by his passion for life and the joy he found in the simple pleasures. A connoisseur of Grand Marnier, Ted savored the finer things while also enjoying the comfort of his "dancing pants" and sharing memories of revving the engine of his beloved yellow '74 Cuda.
His love for music was undeniable, with a particular fondness for Motown and classic rock, which he often played at high volumes, much to the delight of those around him. Ted's musical taste also included the catchy tunes of Led Zepplin, whose songs likely accompanied many of Ted's memorable appearances at gatherings, where he was undoubtedly the life of the party.
Ted's interests were as varied as they were engaging. He was a golfer, a hobby that allowed him to enjoy the outdoors and the camaraderie of friends. His hands were rarely still, as he found solace and joy in woodworking, a skill that enabled him to fix and build things with a craftsman's touch.
Above all, Ted's heart belonged to his family. He leaves behind a loving and extensive family, including his children, Melissa Marie (Richard) Heikkinen, Paula Ann (John) Adamczak; stepchildren, Brian (Emily) Summerfield, Tina (Jeff) Weller, Mike Bandy, and Joe (Kristen) Bandy; siblings, Peggy (John) Young, Wayland "Junior" (Nancy) Brown Jr., Linda Taylor, Ava (Curt) Minkler, Don (Joyceann) Brown, and James (Cheryl) Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Wayland Brown and the late Juanita Brown. Ted also shared a special bond with his former spouse and mother of his step-children, Ann Michele Brown.
His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren Mariah Hartman, Brooklynn Hartman, Jaiden Heikkinen, Mackenzie Adamczak, Tyler Adamczak, Autumn Adamczak, Rachel Summerfield, Ellie Summerfield, Cassie Summerfield, Ethan Weller, Brady Weller, Madison Bandy, Lexi Bandy, Carter Bandy, Kendall Bandy, and his great-granddaughter Ainsley Herr.
In his final 12 years, Ted made a significant impact on the community of Atlanta, Michigan, where he built a great extended family of friends and neighbors who adored him. His presence was a gift to those who knew him, and his absence will be deeply felt.
Ted was a man described by many as loving, funny, and friendly. His ability to light up a room with his humor and warmth was unparalleled. He lived a life full of laughter, love, and friendship, and his memory will be treasured by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
