Mary Ella Fergueson, a beacon of love and creativity, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2025, at the age of 77 in Wayne, Michigan. Born on November 14, 1947, in Quinnimont, West Virginia, Mary grew up in a bustling household that laid the foundation for her nurturing spirit.
The matriarch of her family, Mary is survived by her devoted daughter, Sandra Fergueson (James), cherished grandsons Cody (Tiffany), Eric, Gerald (Robin), beloved granddaughters Katelyn (Bob), Shania (Noah), and adored great-grandchildren Haileigh, Riley, Ellie, Parker, Ason, and Jim Bob. She leaves behind her loving sister Cynthia, and a host of nieces and nephews who were touched by her grace and wisdom. She also leaves behind her grand-pups, Angel and Jack who will miss her dearly. Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leonard Fergueson, her daughter, Kimberly Fergueson, her parents, Minnie Miller and Sinett Dave Charles, her siblings Eugene, Janeva, Susie, Audra, Hughie, and Edward, and her great-granddaughter, Ava, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Mary's contribution to the fabric of family life is immeasurable. As a dedicated homemaker, she transformed her home into a haven of warmth and hospitality. Her ability to turn simple ingredients into extraordinary southern delicacies earned her a reputation as an exceptional cook. Her peanut butter fudge, coconut cream pie, banana pudding, and her celebrated chicken and fish frys with hush puppies were legendary. Always patient and encouraging, Mary was pleased to pass on her culinary skills to anyone eager to learn.
Beyond the kitchen, Mary's creative spirit found joy in sewing, crafting, and making dolls and wreaths. Each creation was a testament to her artistry and the love she poured into every stitch and decoration. Her dedication to her family extended to her pursuit of education, where despite the challenges of life, she studied diligently and earned her GED, setting an example of lifelong learning.
Described by those who knew her as loving and wise, Mary's guidance was often sought, and her words carried the weight of experience and empathy. Her creativity was not just in the crafts she made but in the innovative solutions and encouragement she offered to those she loved.
Mary was a deeply religious woman whose strong faith in God guided every aspect of her life. Her belief was unwavering, and she found great strength and comfort in her relationship with the Lord. Mary loved to share her faith with others, often offering words of encouragement, scripture, and heartfelt prayers to those in need. Her devotion was not only evident in her words, but also in the way she lived-with kindness, compassion, and a genuine desire to reflect God's love in all she did.
Mary Ella Fergueson's legacy is one of unwavering love, kindness, and creativity. She will be deeply missed, but her influence will continue to be felt for generations. Her life was a masterclass in devotion, resilience, and the art of making the most out of every moment. As we bid farewell to Mary, we are comforted by the treasure trove of memories she leaves behind, reflections of a life beautifully lived.
