In Loving Memory of Barbara Rhoades
Barbara Jean Rhoades, 65, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 She was a shining light in the lives of all who knew her, celebrated for her love and devotion as a wife, mother, daughter, nana, and sister.
Born on November 20, 1958, to James and Juanita (Pendleton) Vannatta in Louisville, Barbara's vibrant spirit touched many hearts. For 34 years, she cherished her husband, Dale Rhoades, through the ups and downs of life. Barbara was a proud mother to her daughters, Stephanie (Damon) Kinney, Tracy (Scott) Fentress, Stacy (Kent) Cavanaugh, her son, Casey Rhoades and her fur baby, Dusty. Her legacy continues to flourish through her twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, each carrying a piece of her warmth and kindness.
Barbara had a career in the medical records department at the University of Louisville Hospital, where she dedicated herself to her work and served her community with grace. Outside of her professional life, she found joy in the simple pleasures: spending time playing bingo, watching professional wrestling, exploring local wineries, and baking delightful treats that brought smiles to those around her. Her nurturing spirit and delicious creations will forever be fondly remembered by family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her father, James H. Vannatta, who welcomed her into eternal peace. Barbara leaves behind her beloved mother, Juanita Vannatta, along with a family heartbroken yet grateful for the precious memories they shared with her.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at the Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, located at 10304 Dixie Hwy. A heartfelt funeral service will follow at 6:00 PM at the same location.
In honor of Barbara’s caring nature, the family requests that contributions be made in her memory to St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital, reflecting her commitment to helping others.
