BARBARA L. "BONNIE" RUBY
CUMBERLAND, WINDHAM
Barbara L. "Bonnie" Ruby, 83, passed away June 10, 2024, at
home, with family by her side after a brief battle with cancer.
She was born Aug. 8, 1940, in Portland, the daughter of the late Edwin R. and Virginia (Bradford) Low. Bonnie graduated from Deering High School in Portland Me, Class of 1959. After graduation she worked as Head Teller at Casco Bank. She would later become the bookkeeper for her husband's paving company, L.H. "Joe" Ruby, and Son.
After retiring in early eighty's, Bonnie and her husband Joe spent winters in Citrus Springs, Fl. Moving into the same community as her beloved parents Ed & Ginny. She was an amazing role model to her daughters as she took care of her parents in their later years.
They returned to Maine in 2019 due to Joe's Alzheimer's diagnosis. They lived in the in-law apartment of Bonnie's eldest daughter. Her three daughters lovingly helped take care of Joe and most recently their mom.
Bonnie loved spending time with her family, friends and taking care of her grandchildren. Some of Bonnie's favorite memories were made at their camp "Getting Useless in Eustis" and on their boat in Casco Bay. She really enjoyed "flipping tags" with her mom, cooking, gardening, knitting, sewing, and reading a good Danielle Steel novel.
She leaves behind her brother Tom (Carol) Low of North Yarmouth who she enjoyed a very close relationship with. Her children Bob (Nancy) MacKenzie of Limington, Kimberly Mead (Christopher Duffy), Cindy (Pasquale) Popola both of Windham, Beth (Dan) Dwinal of Lisbon. Larry (Sherry) Ruby of Windham, Ellen (Daryl) Quinn of Cumberland, Joyce Frost of Westbrook. Many treasured grandchildren and great grandchildren. Predeceased by Sally Davies and Marcus Mead of Windham. Steve Frost of Westbrook.
A Celebration of Life will be held June 23, 2024, from 12-4 p.m. at 15 Marc Lane, Windham ME 04062. We will remember Bonnie by recreating her famous recipes and sharing stories in her garden.
