Barbara Kay Rufer (Morgan), age 85, of Edgewater, Florida, left us peacefully for her heavenly home on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Halifax Hospice in Edgewater, Florida. She was previously residing at Beachside Nursing and Rehab in New Smyrna Beach.
She was born on March 6, 1940, in Sneedville, Tennessee. she was preceded in death by her parents. Barbara was a member of Bella Vista Baptist Church, Edgewater.
Barbara was retired from the Volusia County Sheriff's Office after many years of service. She received several awards while employed by the sheriff's office and was known as their guardian angel. She was also employed at Walmart for many years in New Smyrna Beach and had many Walmart friends.
She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Raymond (Jennyfer) of San Antonio, TX and Ronald (Sarah) of England, AR. Three grandchildren, Gwyneth, Peyton and Amaya. Four sisters, sally Hollingsworth of Rockford, IL, Linda Bogren of Edgewater, Florida, Lois Cremens of Rochelle, IL and Judy Sands of Williamsport, PA. She had many nieces and nephews. Barbara was a very caring and helpful soul, always putting others first.
A beautiful smile and eyes that always sparkled, she was a great Christian lady. She would want everyone, one and all, to know how much she loved you. She never had a bad word to say about anyone. She always supported all law officials and never wavered in her love for them. She was an avid animal lover, great quilter, embroiderer and crocheter and just a talented person. She was loved by so many.
Her family would like to thank Halifax Hospice of Edgewater for their care and compassion in our time of need. Also, thank you to Dudley Funeral Home for their wonderful care and services.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
