Barbara L. Salvemini, 88, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 18, 2024. She was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Catherine Harrison, her loving husband Andrew R. Salvemini and her beloved daughter-in-law, Cheryl Salvemini.
Barbara is survived by her devoted family, including her daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Jonathan Schaffer of Maine; her sons, Richard Salvemini of Binghamton and Andrew Salvemini of Whitney Point; seven cherished grandchildren and their spouses, Kurt and Anastacia Schaffer, Neil and Maryam Schaffer, Mark and Kristina Schaffer, Nichole Salvemini, Erin Salvemini, Ashley Salvemini, and Emily Salvemini; and her two treasured great-grandchildren, Robert Jonathan (RJ) Schaffer and Cameron Andrew Schaffer. She is also survived by her siblings, Charles (Nancy) Harrison and Phyllis (Raymond) Deuel of Vestal, as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Barbara was a lifelong member of Saints John and Andrew Church in Binghamton, where her faith was a source of strength and inspiration. She was a gifted artist and gardener who took immense joy in creating beauty in the world around her. Barbara was celebrated for her culinary skills, particularly her famous meatballs and sauce, cream puffs, and the countless Christmas cookies she lovingly baked and gifted each year.
Barbara and her family deeply appreciated the compassionate care she received at Hilltop and JGJ Nursing Home, which allowed her final years to be filled with comfort and dignity. Barbara's love, kindness, and creativity will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at Saints John and Andrew Church in Binghamton on Friday December 27 at 10am. The family will receive friends at the Barber Memorial Home 428 Main St. Johnson City on Thursday December 26 from 4pm to 6pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Meals on Wheels of Western Broome County, 705 W. Main Street, Endicott, NY 13760, in Barbara's memory.
