Barbara Ann Walker Savage, age 85, a resident of
Hernando, MS, passed away peacefully in her home on March 2, 2025 at around 10pm her bedtime surrounded by her family. Barbara attended Hernando High School where she met the love of her life, William Wheeler Savage. They were married May 24, 1955 when she was 15 years old. She always enjoyed participating in the Wildcat Reunions. She was an amazing home maker, sewing, knitting and putting up vegetables. She worked at Carters and the Telephone company, but her career was as bookkeeper for the Producers Gin of Hernando for 35 years. When she wasnt working, she loved spending time with her friends. She had a host of friends all her life. Her first friends she made in first grade where she met Della (Jarrett) Savage, Rose McElroy McCammon, and Shirley Savage Morgan. These four were friends for life. The did almost everything together. Barbara was the first of these friends to marry, to have a baby, to build their family home, to move out to the Retirement Community, and of course she had to be the first to pass on to the other side. She was a member of the board of directors and on the Scholarship Committee for DeSoto County Farm Bureau. She participated in Hernando Civic Garden Club, The Hernando Womens Club, was a lifelong Member of the Hernando United Methodist Church where she served as secretary for the Board of Trustees, Member of the Adult Fellowship Sunday School Class as secretary; Past Worthy Matron and member of Hernando Easter Star Chapter #47, Love Cemetery Association secretary from 1994 to about 2010, and DeSoto County Soil and Water Conservation District. All her life, she loved to travel. You could ask her to go just about anywhere and she would jump at the opportunity. She spent her retirement traveling the world with friends and family, especially with her daughter Joy or sister-in-law Ann Walker and nephew Billy Walker or cousins Jackie and Jay, but any of her friends and family could tell you of adventures with Barbara. Barbara also loved to play games. She played Bunco with a fun group of friends and family for more years than I can count. She loved her Bridge Club ladies. She played on a couples Rook club with her husband. In her later years you could often find her playing Bridge or Solitaire on her computer or iPad. Barbara is survived by daughters, Terry and Joy Savage; sister, Jane Csedrik; granddaughter Amanda (Chad) Vander Lugt; great grandchildren, Wil Savage and Owen Peter Vander Lugt. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, William Wheeler (Bill) Savage; grandson, James Michael Adcock; Mother, Lula Walker; and brother, Jimmy Walker.Visitation will take place at Hernando Methodist Church on Friday, March 7, 2025 from 1 until services at 2pm. Burial will follow at the Love Cemetery. We invite both flowers to the church or memorial gifts to be sent to Wesley Meadows Sunday Fund or Hernando Methodist Church in Barbara Savages name. The family of Barbara Savage wishes to extend our sincere thanks to all the staff at Wesley Meadows Retirement Community, especially those on the assisted living hallways, Vital Caring Hospice, and pastors from the Methodist church.
