Bloomington - Barbara Ann (Clark) Schmidt, 84, of Bloomington, passed away peacefully at her home on February 9, 2026. She was affectionately called "Bobby" by her family. She was born January 12, 1942, to Philip Clark and Agnes (Chrzastek) Clark in Kingston, where she spent her childhood. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School and later #6 School alongside her sister, Lucille, before continuing on to MJM Junior High School and graduating from Kingston High School in 1959. After high school, she graduated from The Moran School of Business. She later returned to school part-time while continuing to work full-time, earning an Associate Degree in Accounting from Ulster County Community College and a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from SUNY New Paltz. On May 2, 1964, Barbara married Albert Schmidt at St. Mary's Church. The couple lived in Kingston until 1968, when they moved to Bloomington and made their home there. Together they shared a loving marriage of 61 years, raising two daughters and building a home filled with family and cherished memories. Barbara and Al shared a love of gardening and spending time outdoors, and their home was always surrounded by flowers. When their family was young, they planted a large vegetable garden with her father, Phil, continuing an important family tradition. Barbara worked for Ulster County Community College and was a strong advocate for higher education, encouraging her daughters and others to pursue their educational and professional goals. She was deeply devoted to her family and shared a close and loving partnership with her husband, raising their daughters and sharing in the lives of their grandchildren. Her commitment to others extended into her community, where she volunteered for several years at People's Place and formed lasting friendships through her work, activities, and her close-knit neighborhood in Bloomington. She enjoyed spending time with friends while attending classes at MAC Fitness. She was an avid reader who rarely went without a book nearby, especially enjoying historical fiction and biographies and learning about people, places, and history. Her lifelong love of animals brought her comfort and she treasured the companionship of her pets throughout the years. Barbara was predeceased by her beloved husband, Albert Schmidt, who passed away on June 9, 2025, and by her sister, Lucille Clark Cyr, who passed away in 1998. She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Zalondek (Kevin) of Amherst, New Hampshire, and Jennifer Klementis (Shane) of Woodstock, New York; her grandchildren, Sara, Alex, and Anna Klementis; her niece, Lucy Cyr; and extended family and friends. Barbara's kindness, devotion to her family, and lifelong love of learning and friendship touched many lives. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Kingston. No memorial services are planned at this time. Those wishing to honor Barbara's memory may consider a donation to an animal organization of their choice.
