Barbara K. Schroeder

Barbara “Barb” K. Schroeder, 78, previously of Fremont, OH passed away on February 9, 2026 at Arbors of Mifflin in Mansfield, OH. Barb was born on November 30, 1947 to William and Mary Lou (Batey) Heschel in Fremont, OH. She was a 1965 graduate of St. Joseph Catholic High School. After High School Barb received her LPN and worked at Fremont Memorial Hospital.

Barb married Duane Schroeder on April 27, 1985 at St. Marks Church in Greytown, OH and he preceded her in death in 1987. Barb worked for Whirlpool for twenty years, she retired from Deangelo Contracting Services in 2011. Barb had many odd jobs including Denny’s, Big Boy, Travel Agent and bartending. She enjoyed bowling, travelling on cruises, goose hunting, Elvis, casinos and BINGO.

Barb is survived by her sons, John (Teresa) Scherf, Green Springs, OH, Allen (Angela) Scherf, Mansfield, OH, James “Jimbo” (Leesa) Scherf, Fostoria, OH; step-children, Cathy (Bob) Morgan, Woodville, OH, Thomas (Angie) Schroeder, NC; grandchildren, Anthony “AJ” (Tim), Jesse, Jacob (Sarah), Aaron, Kayann, Lucas, Calvin; nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Christie Ferguson, Martha (Jason) Mueller, Marsha (Tom) Everett, Scott (Cathy) Heschel; numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Duane Schroeder, stepdaughter, Laurie Schroeder.

Visitation will take place on Monday, February 16, 2026 from 2-4 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St. Fremont, OH 43420.

Services will follow visitation starting at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials can be made in Barb’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association or Dementia Society.
