Barbara Ruth (McKinzie) Sciarappa daughter of Lizetta (O'Malley) and Daniel McKenzie. Born in Evanston, Illinois and lived in Chicago until 1944. She attended St. Francis the Apostle School and graduated from Roosevelt High School in Yonkers New York and the University of New Hampshire in 1949 with a B.A. degree in "the arts". She was also a member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority.
Barbara was a secular member of Discalced Carmelite Order. A daily communicant of Holy Family Parish in Rockland Massachusetts and St. Thomas More Parrish in Narragansett, Rhode Island. She was a Lector and Eucharistic Minister and very involved in parish life. She served on Holy Family Liturgy committee, prayer group, the Legion of Mary, thrift shop, parish library and Mothers Club. She was instrumental in establishing and coordinating a Hospice Program of outreach at Holy Family Catholic Church. She was an active member and volunteer for many organizations including the Rockland Chapter of Mass. Citizens for Life. St. Caletta's School for Exceptional Children (now Cardinal Cushing School in Hanover, MA), the Rockland Art Association, a docent at the Fuller Museum of Art, Bare Cove Chapter of the U.S. Power Squadrons, the 120 Club of Rockland and Great Books Adult Discussion Group.
She was a painter, a craft person, an avid reader, and traveled extensively in many European countries, North Africa, the Middle East, US, Canada and Mexico.
Married for 62 years to R. John Sciarappa (deceased). The mother of two sons; Daniel J. (deceased), R. John of Vermont: two daughters; Mary Jean Schott of California and Jaryl Ann Sciarappa of Rhode Island: two sisters; Jean Flessner (deceased) and Lizetta Gardenier (deceased); a brother Daniel J McKenzie (Deceased); four grandchildren; Angela, Jason, Aaron, and Gianna; and four great grandsons; Gavin, Grayson, Aiden, Avery; and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, May 3, 2025 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Mountain Home, Idaho.
