Barbara Ann Smith, born on January 25, 1937, in Caruth, Missouri, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2025. She led a life of dedication and compassion, notably serving as a nurse after receiving her LPN license. Barbara’s career was marked by her commitment to caring for others, a testament to her nurturing spirit.
Barbara was a very private lady, who preferred the tranquility of nature over the limelight. She found joy in fishing and cherished the moments she spent outdoors. Above all, Barbara valued her family immensely, and the time she spent with them was a source of great happiness and fulfillment throughout her life.
Barbara is survived by her four children, Laura McNeil and husband Mark, Marsha Medley, Douglas Powell and wife Shelly, and Shane Powell. She leaves a legacy of love through her 21 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Her siblings, Jack Ballinger and wife Susie, Jill Dettmer and husband Rich, Susie Kirk and husband Med, and Judy Watcher and husband Frank, also mourn her loss, along with a host of extended family and friends who cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Hugh Powell; her second husband, Gerald Smith; two children, Ralph Powell and Terry Powell; a granddaughter, Christy Powell; and a great-grandson, Tyler Medley.
Visitation services will be held at the Smith Family Funeral Home, located at 322 N Market Street, Benton, Arkansas, on Monday, December 29, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Barbara's presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
