Obituary published on Legacy.com by Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home - Harpers Ferry on Dec. 10, 2024.
Barbara Ann Staubs, 84, of
Harpers Ferry, WV, got her wings and went to walk with the angels on Sunday, December 8, 2024. Her loving husband of 63 years, Lon Staubs and only child, Robin Staubs Hanvey were by her side.
Born April 8, 1940 in Martinsburg, WV, she was the daughter of the late Edgar Cook and Elsie Cogle Cook.
In addition to her husband and daughter, she leaves behind one sister, Marie Rogers (Bill) and one brother, Teddy Cook (Cyndi). She is also survived by a large extended family-sister in laws, brother in laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Barbara dedicated her life to loving and taking care of her family. Spending time with her husband and daughter was her greatest joy. She was an amazing mother-one of a kind. She adored every moment spent with "her Robin". They were the best of friends. She and her husband continued to grow closer and closer with each passing year. It was a beautiful love story.
Barbara was a devoted member of the Silver Grove United Methodist Church which she attended for many years. She held her community and church near and dear to her heart. She cherished her many friends there. She enjoyed being outside in warm weather. She spent countless hours sitting on the front porch and was thrilled when the hummingbirds showed up for the summer. Her flowers, especially her hydrangeas, made her heart happy.
And oh, how she loved to shop. Dressing up her "baby girl" was one of her favorite things. She also enjoyed wearing beautiful clothes and smelling nice. She was so proud of her home. Decorating was one of her passions. When the holidays came, she decorated every inch of the house and delighted in every second of it. She had so much fun hunting for treasures with her sister, Linda, and niece, Penny. It was something she looked forward to.
She worked in the hospitality department at the Cliffside Inn for many years. She made a lot of deep and abiding friendships there. She had plenty of fond memories of those days that she liked to share.
Barbara enjoyed good music and loved to dance. Eating out on weekends and ice cream dates with her husband topped her list of good times. She liked driving fast cars too. She also really loved the dogs that were part of her family over the years.
A dear family friend commented: "Barbara was one of the most loving and caring people I've ever met in my life. She always looked for the good in people no matter their shortcomings."
My mother was my biggest fan and loudest cheerleader. She was there to celebrate my victories and comfort me during hard times. She told me every single day how much she loved me and how proud of me she was. She often said that I was the greatest gift of her life. And there is no doubt that she was my greatest gift. I thank God for the blessing of a lifetime with her. Her warm hugs and sweet kisses are what I will miss most of all.
Barbara was loved by so many and will always live on in our hearts. We rejoice in knowing that she is at peace now and dancing on those streets of gold.
My father and I would like to thank you all for your loving words and kind gestures. We sincerely appreciate you being here with us today to celebrate my beautiful mother.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by one sister, Linda Staubs; five brothers, Edgar Vincent, Wayne, Doug, Lyle, and Ray Cook.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road,
Harpers Ferry, WV. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Bolivar, WV.

One day it happened...
A child was born
Then a touch so tender and warm,
Yes again new life is formed.
From the very beginning of life's process,
God knew that mother would mean the best,
The best of LOVE and UNDERSTANDING too,
To give the best only MOTHER will do.
Up in the night to take a peek,
To assure herself the little one's sleep.
Early to rise before everyone,
Then a cry out "Breakfast is done."
Such a special way a MOTHER cares,
And when problems arise she's willing to share.
And if the load is too heavy to bear,
You'd see Mother go to God in prayer.
For when she herself can't find the answer,
She knows God's there with all the answers.
The beauty of A MOTHER'S LOVE,
Is given to us from God above.
He sent His Spirit in the form of a dove,
But, also special is A MOTHER'S LOVE.
For she will help you run the race,
And help you learn how to gain GOD'S GRACE.
Many a change may come your way,
This please remember on this special day.
Though life moves with ever-changing pace,
A MOTHER'S LOVE can never be replaced.
So be thankful for A MOTHER'S LOVE!
