Obituary of Barbara Stawkey
August 25, 1933 - July 9, 2025
Barbara Stawkey. Age 91 of Wyandotte.
Beloved wife of the late James Stawkey. Loving mother of Karen (Dale) Wisner, the late Michael (the late Cathy) Stawkey and Nanci (David) Roesler. Cherished grandmother of Brittney (Austin) Cook, Brianne (Andrei) Dit, Dustin (Maisie) Roesler, Hannah Stawkey (Anthony), Nicholas Wisner and Jenna Wisner. Dearest GG of Corina, Gabriella and Miles.
Barbara was a lifelong resident of Wyandotte, Michigan, and was deeply rooted in her community and faith. A devoted member of First Baptist Church in Wyandotte, she lived a life full of warmth, joy, and meaningful relationships.
She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1951. Her parents, Jack and Margaret Cattell, instilled in her the values of kindness, faith and family. She shared a special bond with her sister, Dorothy Reid, and carried those strong family ties throughout her life.
She married James Stawkey on October 20, 1955, beginning a journey filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. She especially cherished traveling with family and friends-one of the highlights being a treasured vacation to Alaska.
Throughout her life, she contributed to her community through her work at Wyandotte General, both in accounting and as a physical therapist aide. She lived at Bishop Co-op, where she formed close friendships and spent many cherished hours enjoying conversation and camaraderie on the porch.
Known for her lively spirit, she enjoyed visiting casinos with friends, often gravitating to the slot machines, where she claimed a special knack. She was also a dedicated fan of Neil Diamond and Elvis Presley. She once declined a chance to see Elvis in concert in the 1950s due to being pregnant and worried that he might see her-but she made up for it by seeing him in the 1970s.
Her legacy is one of friendship, family, faith, and a zest for life. She will be remembered with love and gratitude by all who knew her.
