Obituary published on Legacy.com by McDonald and Son Funeral Home and Crematory - Cumming on Aug. 19, 2025.
Daniel Joseph Bowman (G-Bo) moved on to his eternal life Sunday, August 17, 2025. He was a native of Farmington Hills, Michigan, and a resident of Roswell, Georgia since 2017, and a resident of
Cumming, Georgia this past month. He was born on November 27, 1941, in Detroit, Michigan. Having been born on Thanksgiving Day, he set off a trend of holiday birthdays with two of his grandchildren being born on Christmas Day and Easter Sunday.
'Dan the Man' was dubbed "G-Bo" by his grandchildren (rap version of Grandpa Bowman) and he loved it! His brightest smiles were ALWAYS around his grandchildren. "It's done" is a phrase he coined in 2017 after his stroke. Moving him out of his home to relocate him with his daughter's family to Georgia, while purging the house for him, one would point to something as if to ask, 'keep or donate', and he would say, "It's done." It stuck and became a family staple.
As a child he earned the nickname "Radio" because he was always listening to a baseball game on the radio. He accidently set his grandmother's house on fire as a little boy while playing with matches. When his grandmother came back from bingo she was met with her home being on fire and yelling, "My Radio, My Radio, My Radio." To which the responders said, "Lady, there are two small children and an adult in there and you are worried about your radio?!?!"
Dan grew up in Wyandotte, Michigan, graduating from Roosevelt High School. He was an Air Force veteran and spent his adult career as a supervisor at Ford Motor Company also playing on the Ford baseball team.
He loved sports, baseball particularly, and was an avid card/memorabilia collector from a young age. He would typically have four to five televisions going on big sports days. He loved bowling, golfing (had a hole-in-one), playing Euchre and had many trophies from mastering them all. In his later years he loved assembling jigsaw puzzles and spending time with his daughter and her family, including two memorable Alaskan cruises.
G-Bo was a Mexican food junkie, loved Margaritas, loved pizza, and LOVED/HATED White Castles as he once claimed they interrupted a REALLY GOOD round of golf!!! He laughed most when he could float an air-biscuit in an elevator, pop his teeth out for the kids, or just watch his grandchildren thrive at this game called life. He died loving Scottie Scheffler and loving every moment he could watch him play these last few months. Sorry, Phil, you are still first choice with the fam.
He is survived and loved by his son, Daniel Alan Bowman; daughter, Pamela Karavite (Mark); four grandchildren: Nicholas, Christian, Brandon and Mandy; sister, Phyllis Barkey (Jerry); a niece and two nephews; Deanna Bowman, the mother of his children. He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Kosydar [2014]; parents, Charles and Alice Bowman; his youngest sister, Janet Bowman.
He is also survived by his kitty, "Honey." For his 80th birthday his daughter gifted him a kitten. He said, "NO!" She said, "Just give it a week. If you are not in love, I'll take her back." Well, the rest is history. He named her "Honey" as she has an "H" on her head and he could walk in and yell, "Honey, I'm Home!" He loved her so very much.
Well, G-Bo, in your words, "It's Done." Please, please go to your wife first and don't seek out Patsy Cline; you are already in the doghouse trying to explain your retirement living shenanigans.
"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." ~ Revelation 21:4
A local private viewing will be held for the immediate family after which his body will be interred at Glen Eden Memorial Park in Livonia, Michigan, next to his beloved wife, Chris. A Celebration of Life in his honor is being planned for a later date.
