Dorothea Bowman Obituary

Dorothea Mae 'Dot' Bowman, age 99, of Quincy, passed away peacefully with her family by her on August 15, 2025 at Good Samaritan Home. Dot was born at home in Quincy on April 1, 1926. She was a daughter of Edgar George and Bernice (Seward) Boll. She married the love of her life, Walter 'Bud' Bowman on January 25, 1948 in his parents' home at 819 North 5th. He preceded her in death on September 6, 2008.

Dot, AKA 'Fiesty Fritz' was raised during the depression. Times were hard, but her family made the best of it. Simple pleasures were enjoyed. She and her sisters along with friends would play hopscotch, jump rope, jacks, and paper dolls. Her mother's homemade bread pudding was a delicious treat. In 1950 she began a career as a legal secretary that spanned almost 50 years. Her last position held was secretary to Hubert G Staff.

Dot and Bud along with their children enjoyed a life of adventure. They boated, camped, and fished (rarely missing a weekend) and traveled throughout the United States. Many treasured memories were made. Dot was an avid sports fan and loved the Chicago Cubs, the Chicago Bulls and Tiger Woods. During retirement winters were spent at Harlingen, Texas in the Rio Grande Valley. Many friendships were also formed during those years.

In later years, Dot took up adult coloring with a creative eye for color and design. Fashions were her favorite. Many prints were framed and given to family and friends. She looked forward to playing euchre at card parties and bunco. For many years Dot also enjoyed encouraging others with her gift of writing. Many thoughtful notes being sent weekly. She didn't miss an opportunity to celebrate a special occasion, extend sympathy or give 'Well wishes' sometimes just a 'Thinking of you' card. She attended Madison Park Christian Church.

Dot was one of a kind. She will not only be remembered as being a loving, generous and devoted, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, but also for her sense of humor. She could tell the funniest jokes!

She is survived by: CHILDREN: Diana Cooley, Debbie Lish, Kathy Wiemelt (Mike) and Scott Bowman (Freda); 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, sister: Georgina Martin and sister-in-law: Lilly Fletcher along with numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

In addition to her husband, Dot was also preceded in death by a son in law: Chuck Lish, siblings: Bonnie Anderson (Howard), Geraldine Morrall and James 'Jimmy' Fletcher and a brother in law: Jack Martin.

The family wants to extend a special thanks to the loving care received at Good Samaritan Home, specifically staff members: Stephanie, Ketzaly, Sarah, Brianna, Arianna, Micah, Avantae along with many others. The family also would like to especially thank Dr. Michael Kirkpatrick and Laura Starman NP for the wonderful care of Dot and her family.

A Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at 11:30 AM in Madison Park Christian Church.
