Barbara Surovec Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, Inc - Milesburg (formerly Wetzler) on May 12, 2025.
Barbara A. Surovec, 82, of Bellefonte, passed away peacefully with grace and dignity at her home on Sunday, May 11, 2025. Born on August 14, 1942, in Philipsburg, she was the daughter of the late Andrew J. and Mary (Patrick) Pewanick.
On May 25, 1963, in her hometown of Grassflat, Barbara married the love of her life, Michael J. Surovec, who survives at home.
A 1960 graduate of West Branch High School, Barbara spent much of her professional life as a receptionist with Centre County Home Health, where her kindness and compassion touched many.
Barbara was a devoted member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Bellefonte and an active member of the Catholic Daughters. Her faith was a guiding force in her life, and she found joy and purpose in volunteering whenever possible. She was also a past member of the Red Hat Society.
A woman of many talents and interests, Barbara enjoyed painting, crafting, traveling, and playing board games. She was an exceptional cook and delighted in the simple pleasures of thrift shopping and day trips to the casino with Michael. She loved spending time with her family and friends and never passed up the chance to engage in meaningful conversation. Her warmth and wisdom made her beloved by all who knew her.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Michael, and their three sons: Michael A. Surovec (Janine) of Boalsburg, Ronald J. Surovec of Bellefonte, and Gary L. Surovec (Missy) of Howard. She is also survived by her sister, Verna Master (John) of Stephens City, VA.
Barbara was a proud and loving grandmother to seven grandchildren: Alyssa (Brian) Frymyer, Kyle (Catherine) Surovec, Cecilia Surovec, Monica Surovec, Luke Surovec, Dylan Surovec, and Amanda (Bryan) Bevilacqua; and a doting great-grandmother to nine: Henry, Emma, Anne, Peter, Isaac, Oliver, Ella, Sophia, and Luca. Her family was her pride and joy, especially her grandchildren, in whom she took great delight.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by five brothers-John, Andrew, Edward, Joseph, and Michael Pewanick-and five sisters-Dorothy, Ann, Helen, Margaret, and Mary Pewanick.
Family and friends will be received during a public viewing on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, from 6–8 PM at St. John Catholic Church in Bellefonte. A Rosary service will be held at 7:45 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the church on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at 11 AM, with Father Brian Saylor officiating. Interment will follow at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Bellefonte.
Arrangements are under the care of Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, Inc. in Milesburg. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.daughenbaughfuneralhome.com.
