Mrs. Barbara Ann Thompson Swann, of Oxford, NC passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at the age of 93. She was born on March 10, 1931, St. Georges Island, MD to her late parents Richard E. Thompson and Madge I. (Crowder) Thompson.
Barbara was a woman of strong faith and fortitude. She was a remarkable woman, radiating kindness and grace both within her home and in the hearts of all who knew her. She shared a deep and loving bond with her late husband, Benjamin “B.G.” Gorman Swann, Jr., and together they built a beautiful family that was the heart of her life. Barbara took immense pride in raising her three daughters, Donna Jean Swann Landry, Tina Marie Swann Davidson, and Janet Irene Swann Ross (Andy). She deeply believed in family and always desired her family close.
Barbara is also survived by her sister, Mary Diane Thompson Hurley and was predeceased by four older brothers, Erskine Thompson, Frank Thompson, Vernon Thompson and Floyd (Bernard) Thompson.
The greatest joy in Barbara's life came from her grandchildren: Heather Landry Whitehead (Trey), Nikki Eubanks, DeLauren Jeffreys (Ryan), Laci Davidson, and Jesse Griffin (Sarah). To her grandchildren, she was more than just a grandmother; she was a source of wisdom, warmth, and love, earning the affectionate title of "Grandma" from many, reflecting her generous spirit that knew no bounds.
Barbara's heart also overflowed with love for her great-grandchildren—Ava, Cade, Reagan, Benjamin, Kennedy, Zoey, Cayden, and Stella—whose laughter and joy lit up her life.
Each moment spent with all her family, extended family and friends created precious memories that will forever be cherished.
In celebration of her remarkable life, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at St. James Catholic Church at 11:00 am, followed by a time of visitation in the Fellowship Hall.
