It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Barbara Elizabeth (Martinez) Wands, who left this world peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, on September 14, 2025, in Prescott, Arizona.

Born in Flagstaff, Arizona, Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Celia Martinez. She devoted her life to her family, friends, faith and community. She will be remembered as a woman of kindness, strength, and unwavering generosity – someone who always placed the needs of others before her own.

Barbara is survived by her devoted companion of 20 years, Frank Soqui; her son, Weston Wands (Doris), who proudly served his country and was awarded the Purple Heart; cherished grandchildren, Christian, Angel, Alyssa, Jessica and Daniela; her brother and sisters, David Martinez (Elida), Viola Peak, Ceci Foster (RC); and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends whose lives she touched with her warmth and encouragement.

Above all, Barbara’s greatest joy and pride was her son, Weston. He was the center of her world, and she devoted her life to supporting him, celebrating his accomplishments, and standing by his side through every season of life. Her love for him was unwavering and defined much of the kindness and strength she shared with others.

Barbara retired from Safeway after many years of service in both Flagstaff and Cottonwood. Beyond her career, her true calling was in service to others. She dedicated countless hours to volunteering with her son’s school, Boy Scouts, and The House of Ruth. Her selflessness and devotion inspired all who knew her.

A woman of many talents, Barbara found joy in music. Her knowledge of music trivia delighted those around her. She expressed her creativity through beautifully decorated cakes for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays. She never forgot a loved one’s birthday; they always received a phone call and a song. She had a heart of gold and a gift for making others feel valued, supported, and loved.

Her family takes comfort in knowing her legacy lives on in the countless lives she enriched. As we grieve her passing, we also celebrate her lasting impact and the love she gave so freely.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Yavapai Regional Medical Center, who provided exceptional care and comfort in her final days.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled in the coming months, where family and friends will gather to honor the memory of a remarkable woman who gave so much of herself to others.
