Barbara J. (Jean) Waymack passed away March 28, 2023 at home in
Macomb, Illinois, surrounded by her children.
Jean was born in Macomb on July 19, 1929 to Glenn and Delia (Whalen) Crawford. She was the seventh of their eight daughters. Jean graduated in 1947 from Macomb High School and was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Richard (Dick) Waymack, on April 22, 1950, at St. Paul Church in Macomb. She was a loving and steadfast wife to Dick, and mother to their seven children, Kevin, Daniel, Susan, Anne, Lisa, Barbara and Mary.
With the exception of six years spent in Batesville, MS, Jean and Dick lived in Macomb for the duration of their 49 year marriage. Together they built three homes for their growing family. Jean was a gardener and an avid bridge player to the end. She played golf well into her 80s. Jean was a skilled seamstress, creating beautiful baptismal gowns and baby quilts for her grandchildren. In later years she owned and operated Jean's Draperies & Blinds. Her lifelong interests also included reading and travel. She delighted in knowing her grandchildren and communicating regularly with them.
Jean was a woman of deep faith with a rich prayer life. A lifelong member of St. Paul Catholic Church, she served her faith community in key ways such as a sponsoring RCIA candidates. She was a 50+ year member of St. Paul Sewing Club, also Women's Guild. She was a volunteer for Loaves and Fishes and served as Secretary of Macomb Beautiful Association.
Jean is survived by two sons, Kevin (Suanne) Waymack of Hazelwood, MO; Daniel Waymack of
Macomb, IL; and five daughters, Susan (Jerome) Weinmann of Scandinavia, WI; Anne Hess of
Bushnell, IL; Lisa Johnson of Ballwin, MO; Barbara (John) Myers of
Manitowoc, WI; Mary (Kirk) Wesley of
Milwaukee, WI; eleven grandchildren, Natalie (Steve) Wolfe; Joel (Laura) Waymack; Marlo Maglior; Jared Weinmann; Hannah Hess (Peter McCarron); Luke (Julie) Hess; Eliza Hess; Maxwell Johnson; Olivia (Ryan) Lambrecht; Meredith Wesley (Fiance Sam Kuttig); and Abigail Wesley, and seven great-grandchildren, Sam, Clara, Lily, Kenzie, Hunter, Arlo and one due next month.
Visitation will be Monday April 3, 2023 from 9:30am - 11:00am at St. Paul Church in
Macomb, Illinois, with celebration of memorial Mass immediately following. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Loaves and Fishes Etc, St. Paul School, or McDonough District Hospital Hospice.
