Barry Andrew Coston, 68, affectionately known as "Pops" and "Bush," entered eternal rest on Monday, September 22, 2025, at home, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Amanda L. Jones and Claude A. Coston, Jr.

Barry was a native of Princess Anne County (Virginia Beach, VA). He attended Floyd Kellam High School in Virginia Beach. He made a name for himself as an outstanding baseball player, playing in the community league. Barry was known for his powerful swing and fierce determination on the field, quickly earning respect as one of the hardest hitters around. But Barry's greatest moment came off the field-on September 14, 1977-when his only baby girl, Barrita, came into the world. She was the light of his life, a reflection of his strength, spirit, and love.

Barry's life was a living testament to God's grace and presence. At a young age, he gave his life to Christ at Mount Zion AME Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Paul M. Caldwell, laying the foundation for a lifelong journey of faith. Through many of life's challenges, Barry remained spiritually grounded and was continually drawn closer to God. His faith deepened through meaningful conversations with the late Rev. Dr. C.H. Williams, which played a pivotal role in his spiritual growth. With a humble heart and a servant's spirit, Barry found joy in even the simplest acts of service - including faithfully bringing up the church trash cans, a task he took upon himself with quiet dedication.

Continuing his devotion, Barry often spent quiet moments on the church steps, speaking to God. With a sincere heart, he would ask for forgiveness and pray for salvation. Later in life, after facing health challenges, Barry reaffirmed his commitment to Christ. On March 28, 2012, he was baptized at Morning Star Baptist Church, under the leadership of Interim Pastor Reverend Joseph Land.

Barry held many roles throughout his life, both professionally and personally. After dedicating many years of service at Sandler Foods in Virginia Beach, he took on one of his most meaningful roles - serving as a devoted caregiver to his mother, Amanda L. Jones, and later, to his beloved grandchildren.

In his later years, Barry found deep joy and purpose in being close to his family. For the last 15 years, he was lovingly cared for by his daughter, whose dedication allowed him to remain in the comfort of home, surrounded by those he cherished most. He rarely missed a moment - proudly attending his grandchildren's school performances, award ceremonies, graduations, and other activities, always with a smile and words of encouragement. He especially enjoyed sharing meals with his loved ones, lighting up whenever liver and onions - his favorite dish - was served. Barry also had a sweet tooth for honey buns, his favorite snack, which he enjoyed often. He loved watching his favorite television show, Walker, Texas Ranger, and remained a lifelong, passionate fan of the Dallas Cowboys.

Barry leaves behind a legacy of love, cherished memories, and deep family bonds. He is survived by his devoted daughter, Barrita Coston-Jones, and his beloved son-in-law, Michael Jones II, both of Virginia Beach. He was a proud grandfather to Li'a Golden-Irby (D'Angelo), Nia Golden, Tia Golden, and Ryan Cornick, Jr., and a loving bonus grandfather to Michael Jones, Taran Jones, and Aaliyah Jones, all of Virginia Beach. He also leaves behind two brothers: Terry Tyler (Pauline) and Jerry Coston, both of Virginia Beach. Barry is also survived by his caring sisters: Sandy Magee (Sedrick) of Sumrall, Mississippi; Nikki Wheaton, Cindy Williams (Robert), Reverend Cynthia Jones (Carvin), Icarress Gardner, Vivian Diane Johnson (William), and Patrice Vaughn, all of Virginia Beach. He will be deeply missed by his dear cousin, Michelle Cason, and by a loving host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who held him close to their hearts.
