Barry Kemp Gregory

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barry Kemp Gregory, who departed this life peacefully on Sunday, August 3, 2025, just shy of his 86th birthday. Born in Bellwood, Pennsylvania, Barry grew up in Harold Harbor before settling in Severna Park to raise his family. His journey took him briefly to South Carolina before he returned to Maryland to be with his loved ones.
Barry was a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his children, Barry Gregory and his wife Katie and Melissa Fox and her husband Sean, his brother Dennis Gregory, and sister Nancy Barton. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Rheanna Lerma, Kade Gregory, Jack Fox, Delaney Fox, and his cherished great-grandchildren, Sailah Mercado and Callum Mercado. Barry was preceded in death by his parents, Willis A. and Helen K. Gregory, and his sisters, Linda Dull and Barbara Freeburn.
A proud graduate of Arundel High School, Barry dedicated many years as a skilled sheet metal mechanic with the National Institute of Health. Barry also served honorably in the Army, where his love for music flourished as a talented drummer in the Army Band.
Music was a lifelong passion for Barry. Starting with Barry and the Vikings in 1964, he became known for his soulful voice and charismatic drumming. In the 1980s, he transitioned to gospel music, releasing five albums as a soloist and later forming The Crystal River Band. His career evolved as he joined the New Sentries, a rhythm and blues band, and affectionately became known as Barry G. Mr. Blue Eyed Soul. Barry's contributions to music earned him induction into the Maryland Entertainment Hall of Fame in 2013. He was also the music director for Charlie Thomas and the Drifters in 2015.
Beyond music, Barry was an active member of the American Legion in South Carolina and enjoyed cooking, often delighting friends and family with his culinary creations.
Family, friends, and those whose lives Barry touched are invited to pay their respects at an Afternoon Visitation at Stallings Funeral Home in Pasadena, Maryland, on Monday, August 11, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. A memorial service celebrating Barry's life will follow at 3:00 pm.

Barry's warmth, talent, and zest for life will be deeply missed, but his music and spirit will resonate with all who knew him. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the harmony he brought to the world.
