On Thursday, July 3, 2025, Kermit "KB" Thompson, 93, of Gambrills, MD. passed away from a heart attack while "making his rounds" on the family farm.

He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Hilda Thompson, his sisters Thelma Collins and Louisa Boehm, and brothers Joseph E. Thompson, Marvin Thompson, and Wendell Thompson. He is survived by his brother Raymond Thompson.

He was the beloved husband of the late Betty J. Thompson, loving father of the late David Thompson, and survived by his sons Joseph Thompson (Angeline), and Robert Thompson (Lindsey).

He was surrounded by 8 grandkids. The late David Jr, Christine (Sven), Brittany, Joshua (Brandi), Kelly, Lindsay, Jacob, and Johnny. And 6 great grandkids. David III, Kenzie, Sawyer, Levi, Emilia, and Bearett.

Kermit, along with his parents and siblings, grew up working the family farm. It was there that his strong work habits developed.

He was a 1951 graduate of Arundel High School where he was a very good baseball player and the president of the Future Farmers of America. He joined the Navy in 1952 and was a veteran of the Korean war. He returned home from service in 1954. In 1959 Kermit and Betty were married. His sons soon followed. He supported his family by being a heavy equipment operator and foreman, while raising tobacco on the side.

After retiring at 67, he continued to work on the side as a plumber's helper with his late friend John Chaney. Even up to his death, Kermit was still helping split firewood and cutting his grass. His work ethics put the younger ones to shame.

Kermit always loved visits with close old friends and sharing stories with each other. He loved setting things on fire which earned him the nickname of "Torchy". He loved cutting firewood, gardening, fishing, hunting, and just sitting outside under a shade tree. He was a simple man. Monetary things "didn't excite him".

He lit up when around the grand kids and great grand kids. A friendly tease and laugh from Kermit always brought smiles.

All who knew him was given the gift of great memories.

The family will hold a viewing for friends and family at Hardesty Funeral home (851 Annapolis Rd, Gambrills, MD 21054) on Sunday July 13, 2025 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. where the funeral service will be held on Monday July 14, 2025 at 10 A.M. Interment Fort Lincoln cemetery (3401 Bladensburg Rd, Brentwood, MD 20722)

It is also touching to note that Kermit and Betty will be reunited on July 14th which is Betty's birthday. What a gift!
