Barry William McLaughlin, born March 11, 1959, passed away on September 22, 2025 at the age of 66. He spent most of his life in Virginia Beach, where he devoted his life to sports, community, and the outdoors.

A proud graduate of Kellam High School, Barry was a multi-sport athlete but was known best for his tenacity on the football field wearing number 26. On the sidelines was his high school sweetheart, cheerleader Ellen Hitt, who cheered him on at nearly every game. Their young love blossomed into marriage, and together they built a life rooted in devotion and family. Barry and Ellen shared a bond that remained unshakable until her passing, and he carried her memory with him every day thereafter.

Barry's passion for athletics carried into his adult life, where he helped found the Tidewater Drillers baseball program. Through coaching and mentorship, he positively influenced the lives of many young athletes, guiding them both on and off the field. Beyond the ballfields, Barry loved hunting and fishing, often enjoying his hobbies alongside his lifelong friends that were more like family.

Barry's love of sports carried through to his role as a grandfather. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren from the sidelines, cheering them on with pride and encouragement. His presence and support will be remembered.

Barry is survived by his father, Sergeant Major William McLaughlin, USMC (Janice); his three children, Beau McLaughlin (Sayward), Matthew McLaughlin (Ashley), and Kaitlin Joyce (Scott); and his grandchildren Kaiden McLaughlin, Reagan McLaughlin, Camryn McLaughlin, Bodie McLaughlin, Ellen Joyce, and Colt Joyce. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ellen Hitt McLaughlin; his loving mother, Diane Francis McLaughlin; and his brother and best friend, Kevin McLaughlin.

Barry is now reunited with the love of his life, Ellen.
