Barry A. Moffett

Barry Moffett, 77, of Point Pleasant, New Jersey passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 31, 2022. Barry was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey on July 31,1945 to his parents, George and Ruth Moffett. He graduated from Monmouth Regional High School in 1963, where he enjoyed running track and cross country. His active lifestyle never left him as he was a familiar face seen daily walking the Point Pleasant Beach boardwalk. He would also later attend Monmouth University and obtain a LLB in law from LaSalle Extension University. After high school he decided to move to Florida where he became a news journalist working for a local newspaper. He would continue to different places and different jobs in his life, ranging from a milk man to a residential framer. It was this varied experience that would later give him insight into different fields and gave him an advantage in the world of insurance. Barry would return to New Jersey and in 1976, with only a few hundred dollars to his name, he started Specialty Insurance Agency, specializing in property, liability, and liquor liability for restaurants and taverns. In 1984, the agency became a Managing General Agency (MGA) for Royal Insurance. When the market for taverns and other food business services left, Barry jumped in and incorporated Security Indemnity Insurance Co. in 1985, eventually moving into personal auto and commercial auto insurance. Today, Specialty Insurance Agency continues its proven place in the insurance market and now represents Allianz, the largest financial services company in the world.
Barry enjoyed living life to its full potential. From vacations to the islands of Bermuda and St. Maarten, to taking his boat on extended journeys, including to Florida, to owning and customizing a vast array of sports cars and motorcycles, and fulfilling his passion for horse racing by being an owner of multiple horses. He was a brilliant man, a beloved father and brother. He will be greatly missed from this world by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Barry was predeceased by his parents, George and Ruth Moffett and his brother, Peter. He is survived by his brother Bill, his former wife, Melissa; his sons, Conner and Tyler; and his adopted daughters, Kim and Lisa and many other family and friends.
