It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Barry Swanson, a beloved family man known for his funny, loving, laid-back, and generous personality. Born on October 28, 1959, Barry departed from this life on December 29, 2024.
Remembered as a loyal and generous soul, Barry leaves behind a family who will forever cherish his memory. He is survived by his loving wife, Wendy Swanson, whom he married in 1983. Together, they built a beautiful family that Barry counted among his greatest accomplishments. Their children Ryan and Austin continue to carry on Barry's legacy. His daughters-in-law Rachael and Brittany and his grandchildren Ren and Zackary also mourn his loss.
His sisters, Brenda Cummings and Debbie Raschke, also survive Barry. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Pearl Swanson, his brothers Henry, Wayne, and Michael Swanson, and his sister Barbara Turner. Their memories live on in the stories and love they shared.
Barry had a rich full life marked by simple joys. He had a deep fondness for a well-made turkey and sausage gumbo, loved a good roast beef poboy from Short Stop and never missed a night having his cookies and milk before bed. He was a devoted fan of sports and had a passion for baseball. He was a loyal fan of The New Orleans Saints, the Pelicans, and The Red Sox. Some of his favorite memories were spent with his family in Florida, one of his favorite vacation spots.
His favorite recreational activity was spending quality time with his family - laughing, sharing meals, celebrating birthdays - just being together. These moments, he often said, were the true texture of life and gave him the greatest joy.
Barry will be remembered as a kind-hearted man, whose love, laughter, and wisdom greatly enriched the lives of those around him. Though he may be gone, his spirit will live forever in the love and memories he left behind, especially in his children and grandchildren, who were his proudest accomplishments. May Barry rest in peace knowing he was deeply loved and will be truly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Visitation and Memorial Service at L. A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home, 2607 Williams Blvd., Kenner on Friday, January 10, 2025. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 3:00 p.m.
