Basil was a wonderful father who went out of his way to make sure his family was happy and well taken care of. Born and raised in Virginia by his caring father Basil Sr and loving mother Dorothy, he loved everything having to do with Georgia Tech and remote-control airplanes. He decided to fulfill this love by earning a PhD in Aeronautical Engineering from Georgia Tech, and by being a distinguished member of the local RC-RC club.
Survivors include his daughters, Susan DeBacker and husband, Steven Brian DeBacker, Dawn Cooper; and granddaughter, Sarah Drew DeBacker.
Basil had many challenges during his life, as everyone does, but was most proud of the fact that, with the help of his family and friends, he maintained his sobriety for a period of almost 20 years. Basil loved to make people smile, giggle, and laugh with his unique sense of humor and dry wit. Basil was a great father, person, and a superhero to his daughters, and he will be missed and always remembered by all.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 20th at Maple Hill Cemetery with The Reverend Jeffrey Evans.

Basil was a great friend that I met on eharmony. I just learned about his passing. Blessings and prayers for his family! I just wish I could have known his family so I could have shared how wonderful he was to me.

I am so sorry for your loss and my prayers and thoughts are with his family. I just learned of Basil´s passing, he was a fine man and i have rarely seen a person who tried to help people more than him. We used to joke that he spent more time at Bradford than the folks who were getting paid to be there. He poured his heart into his recovery and did his best to carry the message to those who were still struggling. I am sure he is enjoying the big meeting in the sky. He will be greatly missed.
