Beatrice "Shirlene Mamaw" Minnick

Beatrice Shirlene Minnick, age 87 peacefully transitioned at home surrounded by loved ones on August 21, 2025. She was born September 22, 1937 to Thomas and Beaulah Laxton in Jackhorn, Kentucky. She was the eldest of ten siblings. As a teenager she met, married and started a family with Burless Elbert Minnick.

She leaves behind her beloved children, Sharon (Ted) Story, Angela Lopez, Shilah (Mike Hall) Minnick and Kim (Ron) William, Jimmy Laxton and daughter in law Tricia Minnick. Cherished grandchildren, David Story, Sam (Jen) Hall, Leticia (Tim) Moosekian, Melissa Story, Crystal (Jesse) Wombles, Scott (Heather) Minnick, Helaina Trevino, Jeff (Karen) Minnick, Cristina (Josh) Lopez-Deneen, Brandi Minnick, Brett (Taylor) Newman, R.J. (June) Williams, Dylan Minnick, Jerry (Julia) Hall and Julianne (Jonathan) Wagner. Loving great grandmother of 32 and loving great great grandmother of 13. Her living siblings, Ronald Laxton, Thomas Laxton, Donnie (Francine) Laxton, Sonny Laxton, Pat Cunningham and Rita Pickel. Beatrice was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Beaulah Laxton, sisters Justine and Judy Laxton, brother James Laxton, loving husband of 36 years, Burless E. Minnick, her daughter and son in law, Linda (Dana) Hall, son in law, Fred Lopez and her only son, Jefferson Ogden Minnick.

Beatrice, known as "Shirlene" or "Mamaw" to all who knew her, loved to cook and bake. Influenced by her Southern Heritage, Shirlene created delicious meals for them. She was famous for her fudge and biscuits and gravy. During the holiday season, Shirlene and Burless enjoyed hosting for their family and friends at their home where everyone gathered to joyously eat the wonderful food that she prepared with love.

For "Mamaw" life revolved around her children and grandchildren, where they spent wonderful moments together, either in the kitchen, or anywhere that they would be. Besides cooking and baking, Shirlene loved to create by needlepoint.

Shirlene was loved by all, and will be missed by all who knew her.

A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 27th at Kernan Funeral Services, 1020 Fort Street, Lincoln Park, Michigan, 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm, and a memorial service at 6:00 pm.
