Rebecca "Becky" Hernandez, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, took her final bow on April 16, 2025. Born in the heart of Austin, Texas, on April 14, 1947, Becky lived a life full of warmth, joy, and resilience. She passed peacefully in Manchaca, TX, after a courageous battle with glioblastoma-a challenge she faced with the same strength, humor, and love she brought to every part of her life.
Becky worked for the IRS, where she became known as the go-to person for getting computers connected to networks and solving tech problems that left others stumped. She had a natural knack for troubleshooting and an even stronger determination to get things working right-never giving up until the job was done.
A proud graduate of Johnston High School, Becky was once voted "Most Likely to Brighten Your Day," a title she never stopped earning. Whether it was putting a tack on someone's chair or cracking a perfectly timed joke, Becky made every moment memorable.
Family was the heart of Becky's world. She was the cherished mother of Juan Hernandez, who inherited her selfless nature, and the proud grandmother to Carlos, Kevin, Janice, and Julianna-her favorite audience and greatest joy. She shared her vibrant spirit and deep compassion with her siblings Mary Calderon, Antonia Davila, Carlos Hernandez, and Genaro Hernandez.
When she wasn't working or solving problems like a tech wizard, Becky loved nothing more than spending time with her grandkids, enjoying good stories, hearty laughs, and the occasional cold beer with friends. She believed a day without laughter was a day wasted-and she made sure the people around her never wasted one.
To describe Becky is to speak in superlatives: the most generous with her time, the most thoughtful in her deeds, and the most selfless in her love.
As we say goodbye to Becky Hernandez, let us not think of it as the end, but as an intermission before her next beautiful chapter. Her legacy is not one of sorrow but of laughter, love, and a life lived with heart. Becky, your warmth continues to echo in our lives, and your spirit will never be forgotten.
