Juan Diego "Johnny" Carrizales Sr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2025, in
Kyle, Texas, at the age of 72. Born in Taylor, Texas, on June 25, 1953, to the late Cesario and Dorothy Torres Carrizales, Johnny grew up to be a man of many talents and a heart full of love.
Johnny was a graduate of Jack C. Hays High School in
Kyle, Texas. His passion for music and his self-taught mastery of the bass guitar began at the young age of 13, and by 14, he was already playing gigs with his brother. This early start set the stage for what would become a legendary career in the Tejano music scene. In addition to his musical pursuits, Johnny also attended Barber School in San Marcos and worked as a barber for a time. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to open the first music store in Kyle, "Music Lovers," which was a beloved spot for music, billiards, and arcade games.
Johnny's professional life was as vibrant as his personality. He made a name for himself as a car salesman, working at Red Simon Ford, San Marcos Nissan, and most recently, Down Under Auto Sales. His charisma and friendly demeanor made him not just a salesman but a friend to his customers.
Married to his loving wife Esther for 50 years, Johnny was a devoted family man. He took great pride in his children, Jennifer Carrizales and her partner Kedric Woods, Juan Diego Carrizales Jr. and his wife Metra, and Christopher Carrizales and his wife Tammy. His joy multiplied with the births of his grandchildren, Daisy and her partner Jonathan Ramos, Jayden, and his great-grandchild, Amira Ramos, as well as the anticipation of a new baby boy.
Johnny's brother, Margarito Carrizales, and his wife Mary, have fond memories of the times they shared, both on and off the stage. As a musician, Johnny was a pioneer in the Tejano music genre, and his legacy will continue to influence and inspire.
His Christian faith was the cornerstone of his life. Johnny's love for the Lord was evident in his actions and his unwavering devotion. He was a man who loved to talk, whether it was about his favorite sports teams-the Dallas Cowboys and the Spurs-or life's simple pleasures, such as enjoying a meal with friends and family. Johnny was known for his friendly nature, always ready to jam with fellow musicians or lend a helping hand to those in need.
Courageous, loving, and friendly are just a few words that encapsulate the remarkable man that was Johnny Carrizales. His passion for music and zest for life will be profoundly missed, but his melodies and the memories he created will forever echo in the hearts of those who loved him.
Johnny Carrizales Sr.'s legacy is a testament to the power of love, family, and music. His life was a beautiful composition that will be cherished and celebrated for generations to come.
