Ben Bumgarner

Lebanon, Virginia -- Ben W. Bumgarner, age 81, born September 9, 1944, in Cucumber, West Virginia, went to join his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, after an extended illness.

He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lebanon. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was a lifelong carpenter. He enjoyed making and building things with his hands. He was also a building inspector for Southwest Virginia Community College. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter.

An outgoing person, he loved to talk to people and make new friends. Ben loved watching westerns and liked looking at things that came from or represented the "old west".

He was preceded in death by his father, Carl George Bumgarner; mother, Pearle Penland Bumgarner; brothers, Mike Bumgarner and Donald Bumgarner; sister, Kay Phillips: infant siblings, Jackie Ray Bumgarner and Carolyn Ruth Bumgarner

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Tiny Bumgarner; daughter, Anita Praiter and husband James; four stepchildren; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, Phil Bumgarner and wife Shirley; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2026, in the Owens Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Larry Robinson officiating. Interment will be private.

The family will receive friends on Friday at the funeral home, one hour before the service.
