Funeral services for James Benjamin "Ben" Powers, 28, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Mountain Valley Funeral Home with Baptist layman Danny Andrews officiating.
Burial will be in Holly Hills Cemetery in Granbury under the direction of Mountain Valley Funeral Home.
A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Powers passed away Saturday, June 22, 2024, in Joshua.
He was born Nov. 13, 1995, in Memphis, Tenn., attended Joe Kelly Elementary in Fort Worth and two middle schools in Granbury before graduating from Crowley High School in 2016.
He played baseball in his wheelchair in the Miracle League for special needs children in Monroe, Ga. and Joshua.
He enjoyed all kinds of upbeat music, Christmas lights, Shiloh, his Bijon service dog, and action movies such as "Jurassic Park," "Dora the Explorer" and "Beetle Juice."
He made half a dozen trips to Disney World and enjoyed family vacations to Myrtle Beach, S.C. and the Ozarks of Arkansas.
Ben is survived by his parents, Jerry and Barbara Powers; siblings Dustin Gunning of Conroe, Allison Smead of Madison, Ga., Jacob Powers of New Mexico, Jeremy Powers and Heather Taylor of Monroe, Ga, April Powers of Dalton, Ga. and Amanda Stepherson of Fort Worth and by aunts Cindy Vandorin, Mary Seal, Destiny Seal, Liz Powers and Ann Powers and uncles Jerry Gunning, John Powers and Gene Powers.
His adoptive mother, Shari Powers, and a sister with special needs, Celina Powers, both passed away in 2014.
Memorials are suggested to Make-A-Wish Foundation.
