Benita Leigh Dizy, 60, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2025, surrounded by the love of family and friends.

Born on January 30, 1965, in Wolf Point, Montana, to Albert ("Bert") and Edith Wiens, Benita spent her early years in Montana before moving with her family to Saskatchewan, Canada. Eventually, she returned to the U.S. and settled in Las Cruces, New Mexico, to be near her parents and brother.

Benita was the proud mother of three beautiful children, whom she often called her life’s greatest joy and purpose. Her love for them was fierce, and unwavering.

She had a lifelong passion for sports, horses, and learning. A curious and determined student, Benita attended New Mexico State University, initially pursuing a diploma in radiologic technology before following her interest in criminal justice. She earned her associate degree with honors and was proudly named on the Dean’s List.

Benita lived a bold and varied life—she "walked in many different shoes" and embraced each chapter with courage and conviction. Known for her sharp mind, strong will, and deep compassion, she was unapologetically herself and always marched to the beat of her own drum. Those who truly knew her, saw the depth of her love and the size of her heart. One of her most meaningful moments came just 10 days before her passing, when she was baptized—fulfilling a long-held dream and reaffirming her deep faith.

Benita bravely faced a long, difficult battle with multiple sclerosis. Though the disease eventually took her life, it never broke her spirit. Her strength, resilience, and ability to endure life's hardships were truly remarkable.

She is survived by her beloved children: Ryan (Dayna), Raegan (Jason), and Conner; her cherished grandchildren: Jorianna, Ryden, Lincoln, and Charlie; her siblings: Bonnie (Merlin), Bryce, and Britt (Michelle); and her father, Bert. She was predeceased by her mother, Edith, with whom she now shares eternal peace—an anticipated reunion that brought her great comfort.

Benita's tenacious spirit, vibrant soul, and deep love will be profoundly missed and remembered always.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Casa de Oro and High Desert Hospice for their compassionate care during her final days.
