Benjamin Lee Brooks Sr., 84, of Harkers Island, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2025 in his home surrounded by his loved ones. 

A graveside service will be held at 1pm, Thursday, February 20, 2025 at the Vergie Mae Cemetery in Harkers Island, NC with Pastor Clinton Nelson officiating and Masonic Rites.

Benjamin made a living as a boat builder, commercial fisherman, and was a business owner.

Benjamin is survived by his wife, Jo Anne Valentine Brooks of Harkers Island; children: Benjamin “Rusty” Lee Brooks Jr.; Ellen Brooks Gillikin (Richard), all of Harkers Island; granddaughters, Hannah Marie Gillikin of Harkers Island; Rebecca Brooks Davis (Stacy III) of Morehead City; grandson, Bennie Russell Brooks of Harkers Island; great-grandson, Luke Morris Gillikin of Harkers Island; brother, Charles “Red” Malcom Brooks (Marena “Collo”) of Harkers Island; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. As well as grand-pups: Carl Watson Brooks, Gracie Lou Gillikin, and Henry Davis. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Bennie Brooks, and mother, Isabell Lewis Brooks; niece, Eva Brooks Chappell and in-laws, John Robert Valentine and Esther Brown Valentine. 

Flowers are welcome or  donations may be made to Franklin Masonic Lodge #109, 104 Professional Park Dr, Beaufort, NC. 28516. Where Benjamin was a member for over 57 years.
