Benjamin “Chad” Benson, age 38, of Lowell, NC, crossed over to his Heavenly home Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Caromont Regional Medical Center. He was born on December 20, 1979 in Roanoke, Va. to Benny and Cindy Waugh Benson. Chad had a huge heart full of compassion and care for his family and other people and always gave the biggest hugs to everyone he came in contact with. He was the clown and prankster of his family and friends, always playing jokes and making everyone laugh. He was one of the biggest Carolina Panthers fan in all of the Carolinas and was formerly employed by the NFL, working his dream job with the Carolina Panthers. His pride and joy were his dogs, Jake and Stella, which were more like his children. He enjoyed hiking and throwing balls and frisbees for hours with his dogs at the park. He was currently employed at his family’s funeral home, Benson Funeral and Cremation Services in Mt. Holly, NC, where he was his dad’s right hand man and had such a passion for helping families in their time of grief. Although Chad’s battle with his addictions won and took his life, on New Year’s Eve, the above character proves that his struggle with his addictions did not define who he was. Because he had such a huge heart for others, we as his family know he would want us to share the truth of his tragic death in hopes to speak to and help save the life of someone else battling the same addictions which quietly destroy one’s self and their loved ones.
In addition to his parents, Chad is survived by his “gypsy Sister”, as he called her, Amy Benson Helms and husband, Alan; niece, Brittany “Be-fri” Helms and husband, Isaiah; Grandmother, Ann Patteson; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, as well as a multitude of close friends and acquaintances.
Services to celebrate Chad’s life will be held Sunday, January 7, 2018 at Bethlehem Church, South Campus, 3100 Bethlehem Church St., Gastonia, NC 28056 at 4pm with Revs. Dickie Spargo and Dale Lawing officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00pm. Inurnment will be held privately.
