It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Benjamin George Colwell, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, who left this world on April 16, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on March 16, 1941, in Rushville, Nebraska, Benjamin was the cherished son of Hubert Colwell and Lucille Crabb. He was the oldest of six children. He had four sisters, Trish (preceded in death), Kathy, Linda, Tommy and his brother Edward. His life was one of dedication, love, and service to his family and community.

Benjamin pursued higher education, earning three degrees, one from East Oregon University and two from Weber State University. His commitment to learning and teaching was evident throughout his life. Benjamin devoted 20 years as an elementary school teacher, shaping the minds and hearts of countless children. After his teaching career, he devoted 20 years to the Federal Government, where he continued to serve his community with the same dedication and integrity he had shown in the classroom.

In 1963, Benjamin answered the call of duty and served in the U.S. military until 1966. His time in the service exemplified his spirit of commitment and his desire to contribute to a greater cause. After returning home, he built a beautiful life with his beloved wife, Nelda Rasmussen. The two united in marriage in Beaverton, Oregon on May, 20,1967. Together they created a home filled with love and laughter.

Benjamin was the proud father of nine children and he found immense pride in his large family. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Carlos. Benjamin is survived by his loving wife Nelda and 8 of his 9 children: Brenda (Scott), David (Diane), Richard (Traci), Benjamin (Jlyn), Anthony, Patrick (Michelle), Danielle (Pat), and Rachel (Daniel). And 72 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will forever be loved and missed by his family.

As a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Benjamin’s faith was a cornerstone of his life. He found joy in sharing the message of Christ through music and was a member of the vocal group The Men of Song. His love for singing was matched only by his love for God and his desire to share his testimony through music that touched the hearts of those around him.

A funeral service celebrating Benjamin's remarkable life will be held on April 25, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Aaron's Clearfield Mortuary, 1050 South State St. Clearfield, UT. Friends may meet with family prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the mortuary.

Family and friends are invited to gather as we honor his life.
