Benjamin Hoff Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Campbell Funeral Home - Beverly on Dec. 23, 2024.
Benjamin Duthie Hoff, of Salem, died on December 13, 2024. Born in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, he was the son of Ran Liv and the late Joel Allen Hoff.
He is survived by his mother, Ran Liv; four brothers, Jerman Heng, Ricky Heng, Eric Mai, Veasma Sok, all of Beverly; one aunt, Anne Hoff of Concord, CA, one cousin, Amelia Hoff of Concord CA, and his grandmother, Koy Hoeun of Cambodia.
In addition to his father, Ben is predeceased by his sister, Rani Sok.
Ben was known for his kind, funny, gentle and sweet personality and respect for his family. He showed an early interest in art, drawing countless castles and other buildings on yards of computer printer paper, then moved on to monsters and dragons, and finally to self-taught portraiture. According to a bookseller in Harvard Square, he was the youngest child ever (age 3) to ask for a book by its illustrator, Richard Scarry. Ben was inquisitive and mechanically inclined, taking apart and reassembling objects, and built a computer from scratch in his early teens. His creativity extended to food concoctions using whatever ingredients were available. He treasured his summer trips to Lassen Volcanic National Park with his aunt and cousin.
Ben's multiple medical challenges held him back from fulfilling much of his abundant potential.
His funeral service will be at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot St., Beverly, MA, on Thursday, January 2nd, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be at Central Cemetery in Beverly immediately after the service. Information, directions, condolences may be found at campbellfuneral.com.
