Mr. Benny Lee Darnell, age 86, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2025 at Hugh Chatham Health.
Benny was born June 25, 1938 in Wilkes County to Everette and Mozelle Benge Darnell. He was an active member of Grassy Creek United Methodist Church serving on many committees and singing in the choir. Benny loved going to the beach and family vacations. He was in the U.S. Army serving in Germany and retired from Chatham Manufacturing.
Benny was preceded in death by brothers; Jim and Arvil Darnell; sister: Louise Blackburn.
Survivors include: his wife, Margaret Felts Darnell; daughters; Pamela Lyon and husband Alan of Winston Salem, Jennifer Lane and husband Mark of Elkin; twin brother, Bill Darnell and wife Judy of Elkin; grandchildren, Emily Nye and husband Fraser, Madison Aleshire and husband Jeremy and Macy Lane.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, February, 8, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at Grassy Creek United Methodist Church with Rev. Jesse Garmon, Rev. Chad Whitley and Rev. Stacy Eller officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at the church. Internment will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will accept flowers or memorials can be made to Grassy Creek Untied Methodist Church, 291 Klondike Road, State Road, N.C. 28676.
The family would like to thank Stacey Darnell who loved and cared for Benny like a daughter during his illness.
