Benny “Sonny” H. Zakaski, 88, of Louisville, born December 16, 1937, left this life peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, December 18, 2025, to continue his eternal walk with God, in His presence. He was married for 58 years to his beloved wife, Mary, who passed away February 8, 2017. He was the father to Michelle, James “Bo,” John, and David Zakaski; and the grandfather to Zackery, Rachel, and Lydia Zakaski.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth “Libby” and Bernard “Benny” Zakaski; sisters, “Dolly” Warren and Donna Fidleholtz. He leaves behind his brother, Jim “Sonny” (Louanne) Zakaski; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and friends and acquaintances.
He briefly delivered bread before joining Republic Steel, where he worked until retiring at age 62. He dedicated many years to teaching Sunday school for junior high and elementary students, including Wednesday evening classes, and continued serving until his passing. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, he also led Bible lessons for residents in a care facility and assisted them in attending classes. He was passionate about engaging with people, especially sharing his faith in his Lord and Savior.
Honoring his request, cremation has taken place. All are welcome as we gather to celebrate a life well-lived.
