Bernadette Mary Jacobs (Weiss)
Bernadette Mary Jacobs (Weiss), 89, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2025, at Brookdale Assisted Living. Born on August 8, 1935, to the late Richard F. and Gladys C. (Matuszewski) Weiss. Bernadette lived a life filled with love, faith, and a commitment to family and community. She married the love of her life, Elmer T. Jacobs, on October 27, 1956. Together, they built a life centered on their shared passion for farming and raising their family. Elmer preceded her in death on May 10, 2016.
Bernadette graduated with an associate's degree from Delta College and was a long time member of St. Norbert's Catholic Church, currently attending St. Jude Thaddeus Church. Her Catholic faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she was proud to contribute to her faith by handcrafting rosaries that were shared amongst many
She loved sewing, playing cards, traveling, and participating in water aerobics at the Dow Bay Area Family Y, where she made many dear friends. Bernadette also had a knack for clog dancing, a hobby she enjoyed for as long as she could. She will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend who brought light and joy to every gathering.
Bernadette leaves behind her loving children, Julie Merrill, Jill Jacobs, and Jane Rumon; her grandchildren, Ashley (Hannah Garneau) Jozwiak, Severin Rumon, and Bellanna Rumon; Bernadette is also survived by her siblings: Richard (Elizabeth) Weiss, John Weiss, Jane Weiss, Mary Jo Weiss, Janet Weiss, Mike (Lori) Weiss, Russ (Diane) Weiss, Nancy (Ronald) Krause, Joseph Weiss, Karen Leske, Cynthia (Walter) Gorney, and Ann Weiss. She was also blessed with many Godchildren: Jan Wrzesinski, Karen Leske, Douglas Weiss, Linda Dietlein, Mary Jo Bergevin, Debbi Weiss; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Along with her husband Elmer, she was preceded in death by son Kevin Thomas Jacobs, son-in-law, Gary Merrill; her brothers, Thomas Weiss, Paul Weiss; her sisters-in-law, Betty Lou Weiss and Jeanne Weiss; Darlene Weiss; her brother-in-law, Timothy Leske.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at St. Jude Thaddeus Parish. Bernadette will lie in state at church Tuesday from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM. Rev. Thomas J. Fleming will celebrate. An entombment will follow at St. Patrick Mausoleum. Family and friends may gather for visitation from 2:30 PM - 8:00 PM with a Vigil service will be held at 6:30 PM, Monday, January 6, 2025 at Ambrose Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bernadette's memory to the Dow Bay Area Family Y, where she spent many happy hours.
