Bernadine I. Schaefer, 94, of Platteville, Wisconsin, formerly of Kieler, Wisconsin, passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2025. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Kieler, Wisconsin, with Rev. Thomas Kelley officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9-10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church prior to the funeral. Casey-McNett Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Cuba City, Wisconsin is assisting the family.
Bernadine was born on January 11, 1931 in Hazel Green, Wisconsin, the daughter of Andrew and Louisa (Kaiser) Dalsing. She was united in marriage to Elmer Schaefer on October 3, 1950. He preceded her in death on August 25, 2006.
Bernadine worked as a waitress at The Village Bar for 21 years, and then worked at Advance Transformer until her retirement. She was a faithful member of Immaculate Conception Parish and a member of the CCW. Bernadine enjoyed playing cards, bingo and a trip to the casino now and then. She also made many beautiful quilts for her family. Bernadine will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Bernadine is survived by two daughters, Louann (Tom) George, Dickeyville, WI, and Marcia (John) Burton, Lancaster, WI; one son, Randy (Gail) Schaefer, Lancaster, WI; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Schaefer; her parents; seven siblings, Irma (Joe) Wiederholt, Dolores (Donald) Brandt, Myrtle (Art) Weber, Delmar (Liz) Dalsing, Almira (Harold) Weber, Marie (Merlin) Bechen and Agnes (Lowell) Kahle.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bernadine’s name may be sent to Casey-McNett Funeral Home at 123 N. Jackson St., Cuba City, WI 53807.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Park Place, especially Jennifer; the staff of MercyOne ER, especially Emily; Southwest Health EMS; and Hospice of Dubuque for their care of Bernadine.
