Bernard "Bernie" L. Dunker, 73, of Ovid, passed away on March 10, 2023, at his home.
Bernie was born a twin on January 4, 1950, to Paul and Sara (Thompson) Dunker in Julesburg, CO. Bernie graduated from Revere High School in 1968 and shortly after joined the United States Marine Corps, serving his country in Vietnam.
In 1975, Bernie was married to the love of his life, Carol (Gerold), in Julesburg, CO. Together, they built a life in Ovid, CO, with their son Clint.
After being honorably discharged from the Marines in 1971, Bernie moved to SW Kansas, where he worked at a feedlot. In 1973, Bernie moved back to Sedgwick, where he learned metalwork and welding at the Hat T. In 1974, Bernie was hired on to the dump crew at the Great Western Sugar Company, eventually working his way up to machine shop foreman at the time of their closing in 1985. In 1986, he opened Dunker's Farm Repair, where he remained until his passing.
Bernie was known for his many talents and hobbies. In addition to welding, machine work, and auto and farm mechanics, he enjoyed working on his and his friend's hot rods and cooking meat on his homemade smoker, which was widely known.
Bernie was preceded in death by his parents, great-grandson Wade Dunker; brothers-in-law John Wyett and Dale Hawks; and nephew Doug Dunker.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Dunker of Ovid, son Clint (Karla) Dunker of Ovid; grandsons Chase (Victoria) Dunker and their daughters, Olivia and Layna; Chance Dunker; Chandon Dunker (Haileigh) and daughter (Kendyl). Siblings Robert "Bob" (Edna) of Billings, MT, William "Bill" (Hilda) of Aguanga, CA, Betty Wyett of Croswell, Ml, and twin sister Bonnie Hawks of Goodland, KS, along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
