Bernard "Bernie" Allan Mayer (1942-2025) Bernard Allan Mayer, age 82, of
Chicago, IL, passed away at home in Chicago's South Loop with his family by his side on September 12, 2025, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Bernie was born in South Bend, Indiana on October 26, 1942 to Antone and Dorothy Mayer. After graduating from LaPorte High School he attended Stanford University. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Bernie spent his professional life working at The Northern Trust Bank in technology, where he worked for over thirty years and met his beloved wife Kathy. Bernie will always be remembered for his loyalty and commitment to his family whom he selflessly served. He was a devoted husband to Kathy during their 45 years of marriage and loving father and grandfather to his two children and three grandsons. In his younger years Bernie was an avid rock climber and skier. He had a life-long love for baseball. He regularly attended Chicago White Sox games and maintained an impressive collection of baseball cards. Throughout his life Bernie cherished traveling with his family. Highlights include traveling with his parents in Africa as a young adult, family vacations to National Parks with his children, and biking trips with Kathy throughout Europe. Bernie was committed to service. Alongside Kathy, he spent many years preparing food for the Hope's Table ministry at their church. Bernie is survived by his wife Kathryn (nee Overman), daughter Laura (William) Carter, son Brian (Emiko Sato) Mayer, and grandsons Aiden Carter, Elliott Carter, and Noah Sato Mayer. Friends and family are gathering to celebrate on Sunday, October 26 (Bernie's birthday!) at 233 E. 13th Street,
