Bernard Spalding

Bernard Spalding, 96, Calvary, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2026 at the Village of Lebanon.

Bernard was born to Robert S. and Mary Catherine Spalding on July 12, 1929 at his home in Calvary, where he lived until his death. Bernard was a kind-hearted and loyal brother, and uncle who doted on his many nieces and nephews.

Bernard served in the United States Army from January 1951-December 1952. He was a lifelong member of the Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church. Bernard was employed and retired from General Electric in Louisville after 25 years of service. He moved back home to Calvary to focus on his family and antique shop. Bernard owned and operated Calvary Hill Antiques for over 40 years with his sister Dorothy.

He is preceded in death by his parents and ten siblings: Emma Brown Abell, Virginia Raley, Dorothy, Mary Catherine, Cordelia, Edward, Francis, Benny, Carl, and Mike Spalding. Survivors include: His brother, George D. Spalding Sr. of Louisville; 43 nieces and nephews; one sister-in-law Bootsy Spalding who all loved him dearly. He will always remain in each of their hearts and memories.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 12, 2026, at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church with interment in the church cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be held at the church prior to the mass from 10-11 a.m. at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church.

Pallbearers are Mikie Spalding, Frank Spalding, Barry Spalding, Kirby Spalding, Carl Spalding, Dean Spalding, Bob Abell, and Joe Denny Raley.

Bosley Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church, or for Mass intentions.
