Bernard "Bernie" Dwight Stalnaker, 82, of Virginia Beach, peacefully left this world on December 8, 2025. Bernie was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, and a cherished friend to many. He leaves behind a legacy defined by love, strength, humor, and unwavering dedication.

Born on December 5, 1943 in Glenville, West Virginia, Bernie learned early the values of hard work, loyalty, and resilience-qualities that would shape his life and touch all who knew him. A proud disabled veteran, he served his country with honor and carried that same sense of duty and determination throughout his civilian life. Though he faced challenges, he never allowed them to dim his spirit or slow his stride. Instead, he met every day with courage and gratitude. Bernie enjoyed spending time with family and friends, whether around a good cup of coffee, a pool table, or on the porch. He adored his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and he took immense pride in watching each generation grow.

A man of many passions, Bernie loved the outdoors and found peace in the stillness of the woods. Hunting was more than a hobby-it was an annual tradition for him in the beautiful woods of West Virginia. He was also an outstanding pool player, known for his sharp eye, steady aim, and ability to turn even the most competitive game into an occasion for laughter.

Those who knew him will especially remember his excellent sense of humor. His quick wit, playful teasing, and perfectly timed one-liners could brighten any room. Even in difficult times, he had the remarkable gift of lifting spirits with a smile or a joke-often both at once.

Bernie is preceded in death by his mother and father, Ray and Gladys (Radcliff) Stalnaker. He is survived by his beloved wife, Karen L. (Cook) Stalnaker, his children Ray Stalnaker (Mirella), Lonnie Stalnaker (Lauren Ashley), Sierra Stalnaker, and Rebecca Stalnaker. He was known as "Pops" to his grandchildren, Ryan Stalnaker, Lauren Stalnaker, Josh (Hannah) Stalnaker, Bryela Stalnaker, Brayden Carrocce, and great-grandchildren, Grayson Madden, and Kinsley Madden. Each family member carries a piece of his light forward-as well as numerous relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.

His life was rich not only in years, but in meaning. Though he has left our sight, his memory will remain forever in our hearts, reminding us to live with courage, love deeply, laugh often, and keep aiming true-both at the pool table and in life.

The family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer's Association in his memory.

May he rest in peace, knowing the immeasurable impact he made on the world and the love that will follow him always.
