Bernice Hamm Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Memories Funeral Home - Rochester on Jan. 5, 2026.
Bernice Hamm was born on June 13, 1946, in Wrightsville, Georgia, to the parents of the late Johnny Babbs and Lucille Hammons. She was the eldest of five children.
Bernice was married at an early age to Johnny Lee Jenkins, Sr. After many years, that union ended, and she later married her current husband, James Hamm. Bernice moved to Buffalo, NY, seeking a better life for herself and her children. She was employed for many years at Niagara Lutheran Home, where she later retired.
Bernice always had a relationship with the Lord and devoted her life and time to serving Him. She joined Jordan River Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member for over fifteen years under the leadership of Rev. Dennis L. Gray. She served in the kitchen and on the Usher Board because, as she often said, "God told her to train to be an Usher."
Bernice later joined Thankful Missionary Baptist Church, where Rev. Tommie L. Babbs is Pastor. She served as the President of the Usher Ministry and was deeply devoted to this ministry and would not quit. She loved her Pastor and brother very much and was loyal to Thankful MBC.
Bernice was preceded in death by Johnny Babbs (father), Lucille Hammons (mother), Carolyn Sweet (sister), Arthur Hammons (brother), and Laura Jenkins (daughter).
She leaves to cherish her memory Tommie (Gloria) Babbs and Mark Hammons (brother); her children: Jacqueline Jenkins, Johnny (Luzi) Jenkins, Terry (William) Kearney, and Ricky Jenkins. Her grandchildren: Jeffery Peake, Antionette Gidney, Tiffany Peake, Dontaya Davis, Che' (Melvin) Early, William Kearney, Jr., Brian Gidney Jr., Talisha Kearney, Larry Clark, KaSheena Rogers, and Aaliyah Kearney; along with a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, family, and friends.
