Bernice Ann McCarthy, 87 of Collinsville, IL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Mari De Villa in Town & Country, MO.
Born November 4, 1937, in East St. Louis, IL, she was the fourth child and second daughter to Isabella and John McCarthy. Bernice attended high school at St. Teresa's Academy in the Class of 1955. She graduated with a Pharmacy degree from the St. Louis College of Pharmacy in 1959. She worked for various pharmacies in Missouri before moving to the Schnucks Pharmacy in Collinsville, where she eventually retired.
Bernice loved to play golf and bridge. She was an avid traveler, with her African safari and Ireland trips being her favorites. She was generous to her nieces and nephews and always hosted Christmas parties for her family and friends. She was known for her sharp sense of humor and wit.
Bernice was a longtime member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Collinsville and was a big supporter of the school's golf tournament.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers: John and Tom McCarthy; two sisters: Judy and Juanita McCarthy; and a sister-in-law, Marynelle McCarthy.
Bernice is survived by a sister-in-law, Janis McCarthy; three nephews: Mike (Kristan) McCarthy, Tom (Teresa) McCarthy and Jack (Margie) McCarthy; two nieces: Kathleen Goeller and Diane (David) Caputo; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 12 noon on Friday, May 2, 2025 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 207 Vandalia Street, Collinsville, IL 62234.
Funeral mass will follow at noon with Father Michael Haag celebrant. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to SS Peter & Paul Catholic School and will be received at the visitation or can be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
